A common challenge faced by facilitators of e-learning professional development workshops is inspiring participants to practice the skills they learn in the workshops, outside of the structured sessions, in their own time. If we are serious about embedding e-learning within our organisations, our participants must need to be doing more than just attending workshops, we need to inspire them to want to go the extra miles and stop finding reasons WHY they have not made the time to practice the skills they have learnt.
Here are my questions for those involved with facilitating professional development:
1. What are your TIPS?
2. How do you get OTHERS TO BUY IN? To go the extra steps and actually use what they have learnt outside of professional development workshops.
3. What hasn't worked for you?
4. What professional development workshops do you find works the best when your participants have limited technology skills?
Here are my questions for who are participants in professional development workshops:
1. What are barriers that are preventing you from practicing what you learn?
2. What does work for you?
3. What doesn't work for you?
4. How could we, the facilitators , make it easier for you?
5. What professional development workshops work the best for you? Structured? Or sessions where you work on your own projects? How long? Half day, full day?
I am interested in this information for several reasons:
* I want to become more effective at facilitating professional development
* Currently working on an individual e-learning leadership project this year, and will be collating the advice so everyone can benefit from it
* We all face this challenge with embedding e-learning within our organisations
Please take the time to respond to these questions so that we can all benefit from your thoughts.
